Dominique Atwood is from Dayton, Ohio where she began her formal training at Dayton Contemporary Dance Company's Jeraldyne's School of Dance. She was later accepted into Stivers School for the Performing Arts. While in high school she received numerous awards including the NAACP ACT-SO Platinum Dance award. Following highschool, she was one of six dancers accepted into Howard University's Dance Major Program. After switching her major from Dance, she co-founded alongside Sankara McCain, the first Contemporary Dance Company on campus, I.AM.WE. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A in Political Science/Pre-law.

 

Since then, she's been privileged to perform and work with a with a number of companies  and artists including Under Armour, MTV, Dissonance Dance Theater, Maverick Lemons Dance Project, The Princess Mhoon Dance Project, Winifred Haun & Dancers, Mary Mary, J.Cole, Wale, Raheem Devaughn, Natalie Cole, Shirley Ceasar, Dionne Warwick, Dolores Kendrick and Terrence Lee Jones. She's had roles in short films, commercials and music videos; and most recently had the honor of opening up for the Steve Harvey Show. She's been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Splash Magazines, See Chicago Dance, Windy City Times, Broadway World and has graced the cover of the Ngoma Reader. 

 

Ms. Atwood has choreographed for the Miss Intercontinental United States pageant, Georgetown University, The Youth American Grand Prix and Outcry The Play. In 2016 she was invited to participate as one of the region's leading dance leaders by  former First Lady Michelle Obama during her Celebration of Black Women in Dance. In 2017 she was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities to curate an evening length show for the DanceAcositia! Festival. In 2018 she was nominated for the Princess Grace Award. 

She is currently a dancer with world renowned Deeply Rooted Dance Theater and  Sr. Faculty at Studio One Dance Conservatory (Chicago,IL), Ballet Chicago (Chicago,IL), The Princess Mhoon Dance Institute (Silver Spring, MD), Gloria Eve School of the Arts (Long Island, NY). She is also the Founder of WeHearYou Arts Productions (WHYarts); a platfrom designed to give voice to the voiceless and address the value of the arts in both progressive and underserved communities especially. 

Alongside her dance spirit, Dominique is an advocate for youth and artists around the world. She is the Board Chair of Young Ladies Aspiring Greatness (YLAG) and also serves as the Operations and Grants Manager at Deeply Rooted Dance Theater. Dominique gives God all the praise for her success. Her greatest motivation are her 3 little sisters- Sydney Atwood, Dejene Wortham and Sannaa Atwood.
